Rockledge (about 30,000 people) and Cocoa (about 21,500) are the oldest towns on this stretch of the river: Cocoa Village, Rockledge Drive under the oaks, and the 1950s–'70s subdivisions off Fiske and US-1 where the walks are heaved and the driveways are original.
Rockledge and Cocoa are the old river towns of central Brevard. Rockledge Drive and the Indian River shoreline have the county's grandest oaks and the concrete they've lifted; Cocoa Village has a historic district and 1920s sidewalks; the subdivisions that filled in between US-1, Fiske Boulevard and Clearlake Road from the 1950s through the '70s have original driveways, narrow walks and pool decks from the first cage boom. Ask the City of Rockledge first; on many of the river-side streets the sidewalk and the tree are the city's. If it's yours, we replace the panels to the city section under a right-of-way permit and deal with the root so it doesn't lift the new panel.
