Half of a good concrete job is getting the old concrete out without wrecking the yard. We break driveways, aprons, patios, pool decks, walkways, shed and garage slabs, footings and old boat pads with a skid steer and a hydraulic breaker or, on the tight side yards of a GDC lot, a walk-behind saw and a mini excavator that fits through a six-foot gate. The rubble is loaded into a dump trailer and hauled to a recycler — concrete in Brevard goes to be crushed into road base, not to the landfill — and where it makes sense we crush it on site and reuse it as base under the new slab. Rebar and wire are cut out and recycled with the steel.
We watch the things a demolition crew from out of town doesn't: the culvert under the apron, which a loaded trailer will crush if it's driven over; the sprinkler lines, low-voltage lighting and pool plumbing that run under and along slabs; the FPL and drainage easements along the lot line; the tree roots you'll want cut back before the new pour; and the swale, which has to be left draining and re-sodded if the trailer chewed it up. Questions we get about removal & demolition
Do I need a permit to remove a driveway in Palm Bay?
For the part on your lot, no. For the apron and culvert in the right-of-way, yes — Code § 176.020 covers removing as well as building, because the swale has to keep draining afterward. If we're replacing the driveway the permit covers both; if you're removing the apron for good the swale has to be restored to the city's profile and inspected.
What happens to the concrete?
It's hauled to a recycler in Brevard and crushed into road base — the same crushed concrete that goes under the new slab. Nothing goes to the landfill, and where the job allows we crush and reuse it right on site, which saves you the haul and the base material.
Can you get into my backyard?
