Pool deck resurfacing in Palm Bay: a new deck over the slab you already have
If your deck is sound but chalky, cracked on the surface, stained or too hot to walk on, a knockdown or cool-deck overlay gives you a new surface, a new color and a cooler deck in two or three days — without tearing anything out.
Most of the pool decks in Palm Bay were finished with a spray-textured acrylic "cool deck" when the pool was built, and after fifteen or twenty Florida summers that surface is chalking, worn through at the steps and the ladder, hairline-cracked, stained by tannins from the oaks and iron from the well, and hot enough to hop across. The slab underneath is usually fine. Resurfacing puts a new surface on it: we pressure-wash and etch, repair cracks and spalls, prime, and spray a polymer-modified acrylic overlay in a knockdown texture, then seal it — in the color you pick, with a cooler surface than the old one because the newer acrylics reflect more heat.
What we won't do is resurface a deck that's moving. If the slab has settled, the coping joint has opened, or there are cracks that go through the slab and shift under your foot, an overlay will crack in exactly the same places by next summer, and we'll say so and quote a replacement or a foam lift first. We also resurface lanais, patios, walkways and front entries with the same system, and we do a broom-texture cementitious overlay for driveways where the slab is sound but the surface is worn.

Wash, etch, repair
Pressure-wash, acid-etch or grind, fill cracks and spalls, reset loose deck drains, reseal the coping joint.

Polymer-modified acrylic sprayed and knocked down to a textured, slip-resistant finish in the color you choose.
Cooler surface
Modern acrylics and lighter colors reflect heat; the deck is noticeably cooler than a worn cool-deck or bare concrete.
UV and chlorine sealer
Two coats of a compatible sealer so the color holds and the surface cleans up with a hose.

Questions we get about pool deck resurfacing
How long does a resurfaced pool deck last?
Ten to fifteen years with a reseal every three to five, on a deck that was sound to begin with and isn't under standing water. The overlay wears first at the steps, the ladder and the path from the slider — those can be spot-recoated without redoing the deck.
Can you resurface over an old cool deck?
Yes, as long as the old acrylic is bonded. Loose or delaminating areas are ground off and feathered; the rest is cleaned and etched and the new overlay bonds to it. If more than a third of the old surface is loose we grind the whole deck and start from bare concrete.
What colors and textures are there?
Dozens of standard colors and two-tone options, plus knockdown, orange-peel and a smoother trowel texture; we can add a border or a pattern with tape. The lighter tans and grays stay coolest. We bring samples to the site visit.
Can you do this in the summer?
We do, but we schedule around the afternoon storms — an overlay needs a dry window to cure — and we start early. Spring and fall are the easy seasons; if you're getting the pool ready for the grandkids in June, call in April.
